“Alcohol and the devil pushed me to commit the crime” — ‘Family man’ arrested for allegedly sodomising 12-year-old apprentice in Edo
One Orji Okoro, who was arrested in Edo State for sexually abusing a 12-year-old male apprentice, has stated that alcohol and the devil were responsible for the crime.
On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the state commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, led the parade of Okoro and other individuals arrested for alleged offenses involving the sexual exploitation of minors and other crimes.
CP Daaor mentioned that on August 13, the police received a report of an unnatural offense, in which a 12-year-old male apprentice was allegedly sexually assaulted by Orji Okoro at the suspect's home.
He explained that the suspect was later arrested, and the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
The commissioner assured that the suspect would be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
During an interview with journalists, the suspect admitted to committing the act.
“I defiled a young boy, and I was drunk at the time of the incident.
It was the alcohol that made me do it,” he stated.
“I am a family man, but it was the devil that made me commit this crime.”
He added that he was arrested after his victim informed his master, who then reported the incident to the police.
The Commissioner reassured that the suspect would be charged in court.
