Soldier Allegedly Shoots Driver Dead in Ondo State

A driver named Solomon James was reportedly shot and killed by a soldier in Ore, Ondo State.

The incident, which took place around 2:30 p.m.

on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, led to disruptions in traffic along the Okitipupa–Ore Highway.

According to a report by the Ondo State-owned publication, Hope Newspaper, the deceased was allegedly transporting kegs of diesel in his vehicle.

He was reportedly chased by a soldier on a motorcycle before being shot near the D-Choice area in Ore.

Witnesses stated that the chase lasted for some time before gunshots were fired at the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver was hit during the incident, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road and stop in a nearby bush.

The soldiers, however, reportedly left the scene immediately.

The exact circumstances of the alleged shooting are still unclear, and no official statement has been released by the authorities as of now.
