Operatives from the Special Area Rumudomaya police division, which is part of the Rivers State Police Command, have arrested a man known only as Goodnews for allegedly committing rape against his neighbor's 16-year-old daughter in Rivers State.
A family friend of the victim's parents, Chidi Obulor, informed journalists on Thursday, May 7, 2026, that the incident took place on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Rukpokwu, within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
According to the source, the suspect lives in the same compound as the teenager.
He allegedly tricked the victim into going with him on an errand, and then took her to his apartment where he had sexual intercourse with her.
After the girl's parents made a formal complaint, police from the Special Area Rumudomaya conducted an operation and arrested the suspect.
The girl was taken to a hospital, where she underwent a medical examination, and she is currently receiving medical treatment, the source added.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect, stating that an investigation is currently underway.
"I can confirm the arrest of the suspect by operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya, and investigation has also begun," she said.
