Cyclist killed in collision with truck in Lagos

A cyclist was k!lled Monday, Feb. 9, after a collision with a DAF articulated truck in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The incident passed under the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Bridge at the business signal corridor along Airport Road, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

A statement issued via X by LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department head, Adebayo Taofiq, stated that both the cyclist and the truck were coming from the Maryland axis when the cyclist failed to maintain a safe distance from the heavy- duty vehicle.

The statement read “ primary security findings reveal that the woeful occasion unfolded as both the cyclist and the heavy- duty truck, advancing from the Maryland axis, contemporaneously tried to negotiate the circular underneath the ground.

“ In the course of this dangerous confluence, the cyclist was reportedly unfit to maintain a safe concurrence from the moving truck.

“ Within a matter of moments, the situation escalated disastrously, performing in the cyclist being violently crushed and succumbing to fatal injuries on the spot. ”

Taofiq said LASTMA operatives at the scene fleetly interdicted the truck motorist, who had tried to flee the scene.

“ The suspect was later handed over to security labor force from the Ikeja Police Division for thorough disquisition and execution in line with extant laws. ”

He added that officers from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit( SHEMU) were called to remove the departed cyclist, icing business inflow and public safety.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, expressed anguish over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the departed.

He prompted cyclists and marketable motorbike riders to exercise caution and rigorously cleave to business regulations, advising against plying roadways and major roads where their threat of accidents
is advanced.
