In an official statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it had “completed a series of strikes in the heart of Tehran,” hitting “dozens of targets.” These included missile production centers and the headquarters of Iran’s Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), which Israel accuses of leading Iran’s nuclear weapons research.
The IDF stated that the SPND facility is instrumental in developing advanced technologies and weaponry to enhance Iran’s military strength. Over 60 fighter jets reportedly took part in the operation, striking multiple sites involved in manufacturing missile components and materials used in missile engine production.
Israel also reported intercepting four drones allegedly launched from Iran and destroying three missile launchers that were "ready to fire" at Israeli territory.
This latest offensive follows a previous round of Israeli airstrikes last week, which were prompted by intelligence suggesting Iran was nearing the capability to produce a nuclear weapon. Iran has repeatedly denied these claims, maintaining that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.
The intensifying conflict has triggered alarm across the international community. European foreign ministers are scheduled to meet with their Iranian counterpart on June 20 to push for diplomatic solutions. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is weighing possible military involvement amid growing pressure and warnings from the White House.
Tensions have further escalated due to recent missile attacks from Iran, with Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem experiencing multiple air raid alerts and explosions in recent days.
As fears of a broader regional war grow, world leaders continue to call for restraint and de-escalation to avoid a full-blown Middle East conflict.
