Renowned Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has announced that he will no longer seek political office or accept any government-related role in Nigeria.
Utomi made the declaration during an appearance on Politics Today, a current affairs program on Channels Television, on Friday.
"Let me state clearly, I will not run for public office, I will not accept an appointment, [or] contract by any government in Nigeria," Utomi stated emphatically during the interview. "My only concern is the well-being of the next generation."
He emphasized that his commitment lies in contributing to the nation's development through non-political means, adding that he has lived his life with integrity and without relying on government funds.
"I have lived my life decently without government money or stealing anybody’s thing. I want to take that away from people who talk nonsense like, ‘Oh, he is looking for contract,’” he added.
Utomi, a respected academic and public affairs analyst, has been involved in various political movements and reform efforts over the years but now says his focus will be entirely on mentoring and advocacy for the betterment of future generations.
