Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made it clear that Ukraine will not accept any peace agreements made without its participation. This comes as top Russian and US officials prepare to meet in Saudi Arabia for high-stakes talks on the war in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine regards any negotiations without its involvement as ineffective and unrecognizable. He also confirmed that Ukraine would not take part in the talks, stating that they were not informed about the negotiations.
The US-Russia talks in Riyadh will mark the first in-person discussions between top officials from both countries in years. However, the swift push to organize these talks has added to anxieties in Europe, which has been left out of the negotiations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that Russia has no intention of making territorial concessions to Ukraine during the peace talks. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Saudi Arabia, along with other senior US officials, to participate in the talks.
Zelenskyy has also announced that he will travel to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, although he stressed that his visit is not linked to the Russian-US peace talks. Additionally, Trump's special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, will visit Kyiv on Thursday, where he will meet with Ukrainian officials and visit the frontline.
The situation remains complex, with little known about Trump's peace plan for Ukraine or Russia's willingness to engage. However, one thing is clear: Ukraine will not accept any peace agreements made without its participation.
