The United States government has launched an investigation into the utilization of past aid sent to Nigeria and other countries.
This development comes after US Congressman Scott Perry alleged that the US Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Boko Haram, a terrorist group, to the tune of $697 million annually.
The US Mission to Nigeria revealed that monitoring systems are already in place to verify the US government's assistance.
In a statement, the mission emphasized that comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems help ensure that US aid reaches its intended recipients.
The US government has strongly condemned the violence and disregard for human life perpetrated by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria and the region.
Nigerian Senator Ali Ndume has also called on the Nigerian government to investigate claims that USAID funded Boko Haram.
