A military airstrike targeting bandits in Katsina State, Nigeria, mistakenly killed six family members, including three children, a man, and two women, in Yauni community of Zakka Ward, Safana Local Government Area.
The incident occurred after security operatives attempted to foil a bandit attack on voters in Zakka village during Saturday's local government elections.
A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of two police officers and a State Community Watch Corps operative.
This is not the first reported incident of its kind. In July 2022, a military fighter jet mistakenly dropped a bomb on Kunkunni village, killing at least two people.
More recently, a military airstrike in Zamfara mistakenly killed 16 persons, including local vigilantes and residents.
The military and government authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
