A devastating conclusion has been reached in the search for Louise Lasalle, an 11-year-old schoolgirl from Essone in northern France. Her body was found in woodlands near her school in Épinay-sur-Orge on Saturday morning, prompting a murder investigation.
Louise was last seen leaving André-Maurois middle school on Friday at around 1:50 pm local time. When she failed to return home, her parents alerted the authorities, and her sister posted a plea for help on social media.
The post described Louise's appearance, including a purple backpack with a butterfly on it, a navy blue coat, and a large white bandage on her chin.
Police launched an extensive search operation, utilizing specialist police dogs, drones, and a helicopter. CCTV footage showed Louise heading towards the park before she disappeared.
A 23-year-old man and his 20-year-old partner were arrested at their home in Épinay-sur-Orge around 12:45 am on Saturday, before Louise's body was discovered.
Public prosecutor Grégoire Dulin has confirmed that an investigation into the murder of a minor has been opened, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The local authority has expressed sympathy with the family's grief, stating that all means were deployed to try to find Louise as soon as her disappearance was reported.
