A 13-year-old schoolgirl who stabbed two teachers and a fellow pupil had reached a "breaking point" due to bullying, according to her father. The girl, now 14, was convicted of three counts of attempted murder after a week-long trial.
The incident occurred at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman secondary school in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, when the girl used a multi-tool to attack two teachers and a pupil during a mid-morning break. Her father defended her actions, citing bullying as a possible reason for the attacks.
Before the incident, the girl had been excluded for a week for possessing a knife. Her return to school was conditional on her father checking her bag every morning, with school staff also allowed to search it. However, on the day of the attack, the girl left the house before her father woke up, and he did not check her bag.
The girl's father alleged that the school had ignored his warnings about bullying and that his daughter had been punched, kicked, and slapped by bullies. He also stated that she had been self-harming and contemplating suicide due to the extreme bullying.
During her trial, the girl said she had taken knives to school since she was in year 3 or 4 due to feeling "scared and worried." On the day of the attack, she had a "sinister" look in her eye and was spoken to about wearing non-uniform clothing.
The girl was restrained by teachers and later arrested. She will be sentenced on April 28.
