The Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a traditional ruler in Edo Central, has been freed by police after being held captive for four days. He was kidnapped on February 3rd.
Edo Police Command spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Saturday. The operation took place around 6:00 pm on Friday.
Yamu credited the successful rescue to persistent police work, along with support from the Edo State Government, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members.
He noted that Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin, had personally pledged to secure the traditional ruler's release, and her team worked diligently to achieve that goal.
The police expressed gratitude to Governor Monday Okpebholo and the Edo State Government for their logistical support. Appreciation was also extended to the vigilantes, hunters, and residents who contributed to the effort.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to combating crime in the state.
