A UK woman, Rhiannon Evans, 25, has been sentenced to a 12-month community order and a two-year restraining order for sending videos of herself farting to her boyfriend's ex, Deborah Prytherech.
The court found Evans guilty of harassment, with Prosecutor Diane Williams arguing that the videos were "purely malicious" and caused Prytherech significant distress and anxiety.
Evans had sent seven videos over several days, including on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, each featuring her smiling at the camera while passing wind.
Her defense lawyer, Harriet Gorst, claimed that Evans had sent the videos without malicious intent, but had been drinking at the time and was caught up in a dispute between her partner and his ex over child contact.
The court ordered Evans to pay £100 in compensation and £199 in court costs, as well as attend 15 rehabilitation sessions and undergo a 60-day alcohol abstinence period.
This unusual case highlights the growing awareness of digital misconduct and its real-world consequences.
