A mother in Michigan, USA, has been accused of setting her house on fire, killing her 12-year-old daughter and injuring two other children.
Rocanda Singleton, 46, allegedly disconnected smoke alarms and poured lighter fluid around the property before starting the fire.
According to investigators, Singleton removed seven smoke detectors from her home, bagged them, and took them outside. She then attempted to block her children inside and doused the residence in lighter fluid.
When police arrived, they found Singleton standing outside, while her children's screams could be heard from inside.
The fire chief stated that the screams would "live in [first responders'] heads for the rest of [their] lives."
The 12-year-old victim, Shamiya Stewart, died from smoke inhalation and burns. The two surviving children, aged 7 and 10, were injured but have since been released from the hospital.
Singleton faces life in prison if convicted. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral expenses and support the family.
