A swarm of drones launched a nighttime attack on an oil refinery in Russia's Volgograd region on January 31, sparking a fire that was quickly extinguished.
According to the regional governor, Andrey Bocharov, one worker was hospitalized due to the incident.
The attack, reportedly carried out by Ukrainian drones, targeted the LUKOIL Volgogradnaftopererabotka oil refinery.
Local residents reported hearing explosions in the area, while various sources confirmed the incident throughout the night.
Russian authorities claimed that 49 Ukrainian drones were shot down over seven regions, including Volgograd, Rostov, Kursk, and Yaroslavl.
However, local reports disputed these figures, with Kursk region officials stating that 17 drones were shot down, and Yaroslavl's governor reporting five downed drones.
The targeted refinery is the sixth-largest in Russia, with a capacity of 14 million tons of oil per year. It produces various fuel types, including gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel.
This incident follows a series of drone attacks on Russian regions, including Bryansk and Belgorod, which were hit on the night of January 30.
