The devastating crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 near Reagan National Airport in Washington DC has left 40 bodies recovered so far, with no survivors.
As investigators probe the cause of the tragedy, heartbreaking stories of the victims are emerging.
Among the victims were 14 US figure skaters, including teenagers Spencer Lane and Jinna Han, who were part of the Skating Club of Boston. Coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, world figure skating champions in 1994, also perished.

• Brielle Beyer, 12, a figure skater who survived cancer at four months old, was on board with her mother, Justyna Magdalena.
• Grace Maxwell, 20, a college student, was returning to school after attending her grandfather's funeral.
• Asra Raza, 26, sent a final text to her husband, Hamaad Raza, saying she would land in 20 minutes.
• Sarah Lee Best and Elizabeth Keys, both 33, were colleagues at a Washington DC law firm, returning home to Kansas.
The families of the victims are sharing their grief, including Andy Beyer, who lost his wife and daughter. The International Skating Union expressed condolences, saying figure skating is "a close-knit family."
