Following a judicial inquiry into the claim that Lisa Welford, 49 had jumped into the River Derwent in Malton, North Yorkshire, her abusive partner and serial domestic abuser, Vincent Morgan, 47, has been found guilty of killing her, Mirror UK has the report.
The killer shouted at the judge twice during his sentencing comments on Wednesday afternoon. The first time from the dock Morgan said "You're wrong" and then later asked the judge "Is that your opinion, or is that fact?"
Claudia's mum earlier said the murderer who drowned her missing daughter’s best friend in April “deserves to be locked up for life”.
This week Joan Lawrence, 81, told The Mirror about her horror after discovering her daughter’s childhood best friend Lisa Welford had been murdered. She told how the pair had been “inseparable” as children and Lisa was devastated after her pal who she went on holiday with went missing.
Lisa was drowned by her abusive partner in a river a few minutes away from Joan and now Joan says she cannot bear walking over the same bridge where the once "joyful" little girl was murdered and she is appalled he was allowed on bail, free to kill.
Joan told The Mirror: “He deserves to be locked up for life. But what does life mean now? This needs to send out a clear message to other violent men that this type of behaviour is not acceptable.
“Women should not suffer at the hands of men. He has caused untold pain to Lisa’s family that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. How can someone be this evil? Surely no one is born this evil? How do we stop this, how do we educate men that this type of behaviour isn’t acceptable.” We need to educate young boys from an early age that this is not acceptable behaviour.
“How was he able to do this when he had three domestic violence orders against him and was on bail? Surely this man should never have been allowed to be near any woman. How did North Yorkshire Police allow him to be anywhere near any women?”
North Yorkshire Police are under investigation by the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) after it emerged he was known to them for abusing Lisa and was on bail at the time he killed her.
After he was found guilty the force said: "North Yorkshire Police work quietly and confidentially with many agencies and professionals, help will always be there for those in abusive relationships, in ways that work with them to keep them safe."
