The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued 10 victims, after engaging a fierce gun battle with suspected armed bandits in Katsina-Magama Jibia road.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening, December 24th, 2024.
Wielding dangerous weapons, the bandits attacked a commercial vehicle and opened fire on the occupants in an attempt to abduct them.
In his account on the incident, the spokesperson Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq stated that, “upon receipt of the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia swiftly led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnap attempt, and rescued all the ten victims.”
Four of the rescued victims who sustained gunshot injuries during the attack were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention, but sadly, two of the rescued victims succumbed to the gunshot injuries while receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, according to the Police spokesperson.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their bravery and dedication. He urged them to maintain this level of commitment in the fight against crime.
The CP also appealed to the public to cooperate with the police by promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
