Jay-Z is prepared to throw P Diddy "under the bus" in order to clear his own name, according to a report.
The music world was rocked this year when Sean Combs - known as P Diddy - was arrested in New York in September on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. The 55-year-old musician has furiously denied the allegations made against him and has plead not guilty. He remains behind bars as his trial is not expected to start until May next year.
This month, in a civil law suit, an allegation was made against Shawn Carter - known under the stage name Jay-Z, 55 - claiming that he had raped a woman when she was a teenager alongside Combs. Carter has furiously denied the allegation and has vowed to clear his name after the unidentified woman, known only as Jane Doe, launched a civil case against him, MirrorUK reported.
Now it is being claimed that Carter is fully prepared to turn on his former friend Combs in order to prove his innocence. The men have been figures in music for decades and have been photographed together regularly at awards shows and music and entertainment events.
A source told the Daily Mail: "Jay-Z would absolutely throw Diddy under the bus if that is what it took to clear his name and walk away from this... He has zero loyalty to Diddy. The moment Diddy was arrested, Jay-Z scrubbed him from his existence. He is going after [lawyer Tony] Buzbee [who represents Jane Doe] for himself and not for anyone else."
The source added: "The only thing that he cares about is him never stepping foot inside a jail cell and his family being safe. Jay-Z is extremely powerful and will deploy any tactic necessary." The Mirror has approached spokespersons of both Carter and Combs for comment.
After being accused of rape earlier this month, Carter rejected the civil case against him. In furious statement, he commented that the allegations made against him stood to disrupt the family life he shares with chart-topping wife Beyonce and their children; Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir. Carter has not been criminally charged with any crime and his accuser is making their accusations via the civil courts.
Blasting his accuser and her lawyer, Tony Buzzbee, he said in a statement: "My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people." He has also questioned the motives of Buzzbee - who is also representing over 100 other people who have accused Combs of assaulting them.
But hitting back at Carter, Buzzbee said in a public statement: "Regarding the Jay Z case and his efforts to silence my clients: Mr. Carter previously denied being the one who sued me and my firm. He filed his frivolous case under a pseudonym. What he fails to say in his recent statement is my firm sent his lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim and that victim never demanded a penny from him. Instead, she only sought a confidential mediation. Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff. His conduct has had the opposite impact. She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve."
He added: "As far as the allegations in the complaint filed, we will let the filing speak for itself and will litigate the facts in court, not in the media."
