Dele Farotimi released from prison, after meeting bail conditions

After the drama over his bail application, human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi has regained his freedom and will be celebrating Christmas with his family and friends.

He was released on Tuesday morning, having met his bail conditions.

Farotimi, who already left Ekiti for his Lagos home, was arrested earlier in the month for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).

“I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held in the prison facilities of Ekiti State and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!” Omoyele Sowore wrote on X, announcing his release.

A few days ago, a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti granted Farotimi bail at N30 million, with two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner; the submission of Farotimi’s passport; and a prohibition on Farotimi granting media interviews once released.
