Davido show in Nigeria threatened over economy comments

Following his remarks about the country’s economy, afrobeats star, Davido, has claimed that his much-anticipated December show in Nigeria is being threatened to be canceled.

The singer made headlines after granting an interview on the American podcast Big Homies House, where he advised Americans not to relocate to Africa, particularly Nigeria.

Davido description of Nigeria's economy as being in “shambles” was greeted with a flurry of backlash from Nigerians at home and abroad.

The artist was vehemently criticized by prominent figures like Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri of publicly tarnishing Nigeria’s image on a global platform.

Responsing to the backlash, Davido defended his position by emphasizing the role of entertainers as the country’s “real ambassadors.”

“Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!” He wrote on his X handle.

Amid the ongoing uproar, Davido revealed another layer of the fallout, alleging threats to cancel his Lagos performance over his interview.

“Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria,” he tweeted.
