The recent surge in petrol prices is moving Nigeria closer to becoming a failed state, Prince Uche Secondus, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned
In an interview in Abuja, he questioned the inability of the Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to provide effective leadership over the past two years.
Emphasizing the suffering faced by citizens, he stated, “All the indices are pointing to a failed state and democracy. We need to pray for our country because the masses are in trouble.”
He also lamented the rise in the pump price of petrol which has skyrocketed to N1,100, with some areas reporting prices as high as N1,200, exacerbating the hardships for many Nigerians.
Taking the time also to address the ongoing crisis within the PDP, particularly in his home state of Rivers, Secondus said, “There are no two captains in a ship. Governor Fubara is our governor and the leader of our state,” he emphasized, expressing hope that the internal issues within the party would soon be resolved.
“I feel very pained about the state because business and investors are running away. They should tone it down.”
He concluded by calling for judicial reforms, so as to protect Nigeria’s fragile democracy, stressing that the judiciary is a critical arm of government that must function effectively.
