Petrol tanker explodes on Kano-Hadejia expressway, many fear dead

Several persons were reported dead when a petrol tanker exploded along the Kano-Hadejia expressway, in Taura LGA of Jigawa state.

The incident which started late Tuesday night at around 11:45pm, continued until 3:15am on Wednesday, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region.

The publication added that the explosion triggered a massive fire, claiming many lives and leaving at least 300 people severely injured.

Eyewitnesses said the inferno spread quickly, causing extensive damage and overwhelming emergency services.

While authorities are yet to confirm the number of people who met their untimely death in the incident , rescue and recovery operations are ongoing to identify the victims and provide medical assistance to the injured.
