Shanties in the Surulere area of the city were cleared on Thursday by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI).
The enforcement exercise carried out at Western Avenue, Surulere, and under the National Stadium Bridge, saw makeshift structures removed and illegal occupants dislodged.
Disclosing the enforcement exercise via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab wrote: “Earlier today, the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) conducted clearance operations at Western Avenue, Surulere and under National Stadium Bridge removing shanties and dislodging illegal squatters.”
The videos attached to the post showed the enforcement operatives dismantling shanties with hand tools.
The commitment of the State government to maintaining environmental sanitation and highlighted efforts to restore order in public spaces across Lagos were also disseminated through the footage.
The Lagos State Government has ramped up its efforts to clear shanties and dislodge illegal squatters across the state, aiming to enhance the city’s aesthetics and bolster security.
