Child trafficker apprehended by police in Anambra, rescue victims


Following reports of increasing cases of missing teenagers in the state, the Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a suspect in connection with the trafficking of teenagers aged between 13 and 16.

At a press briefing in Awka, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the suspect had trafficked numerous teenagers to neighbouring countries.

He added that some of the victims, who had been taken to Ghana, have been safely returned to Nigeria, with search ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, had directed police personnel in the state to take all necessary actions to address the issue.

“The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation with the police. This will assist in rescuing other victims and tracking down additional gang members,” he said.
