Seven Polish nationals were arrested by the Department of State Service, DSS, in connection with the violent nationwide hunger protests in Kano.
DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, made the revelation during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and members of the Diplomatic Corps on Wednesday.
The meeting had heads of security agencies of the country in attendance.
Responding to questions on the arrest of the Polish Nationals, the DSS representative stated that they were picked up over the display of foreign flags during the protests in parts of the North-West.
Assuring that the arrest was not a targeted attempt on Polish nationals, he disclosed that those arrested are being investigated, further .
The meeting was attended by Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, a representative of the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Affairs minister reiterated that the Federal Government is working assiduously towards enhancing socioeconomic development, which according to him, had ensured the reduction of the country’s debt servicing spending from 90 per cent to 68 per cent.
He also mentioned that the government had initiated other interventions to ensure food security, create jobs and promote investments.
