The security of the main palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has been taken over by operatives of Kano State Police Command, displacing local hunters who have been guarding the Emir since his reinstatement.
Following rumours that federal authorities are on a move to forcefully return the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, to the main palace, the ‘Yan Tauri’ local hunters were deployed en masse last month to guard the palace.
But on Sunday evening, a team of security agents took over the control of securing the palace from the hunters.
Meanwhile, the displaced Aminu Ado-Bayero remains under the protection of security agents at the Nasarawa mini palace.
Despite an eviction notice issued by the Kano State government after a vague court ruling by Justice Muhammad Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano last Thursday, both palaces have continued their traditional activities without interruption.
Comment from the Kano State Police Command, SP Haruna Kiyawa on what prompted the sudden change in security arrangements at the main palace has not yet been obtained at press time.
