The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that operational adjustments are in progress to prioritise protection of farmers to ensure a successful rainy season farming across the country, as part of the efforts to address the security challenges that prevented farmers from going to the farms and resulted in high cost of foods in the country.
This follows the call by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Nigerians to embrace subsistence farming to address the challenge of the rising cost of foods.
While acknowledging that things were not working in the country as President Bola Tinubu had wanted, Onanuga disclosed that Nigerians would begin to see the results of the government’s efforts in the next 12 months.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, speaking on the efforts to ensure that farmers return to the farms in Abuja, said the armed forces had intensified intelligence gathering efforts targeted at hunting terrorists and striking them where they may be hiding and hibernating.
While assuring that "winning the war against the terrorist is non-negotiable," he emphasized that troops will continue to employ significant firepower to neutralise terrorists and disrupt their activities across the country.
